Chapter 8 -Education Issues( Research Paper)
I think that using the Web for research differs greatly from using it to copy someone's else work. When someone goes on the Internet for research purposes the individual is looking for data or information to back up his or her previous findings on a particular subject or matter. How can instructors keep students from claiming the work of others as their own? I think the instructors should not have to play police officers for the students in their classes but I do believe that those who continue to do wrong even when they are aware of the consequences should be punished. Some instructors are aware of the continual mischief of some students , who don't think twice of the consequences they can face if they get caught.I think that teachers should familiarize themselves with the different sites that students use to copy others work, in other words plagiarizing. Going through high school, college, and even through university through copied work from others, does not say much about you as a person, who someday will become a leader in our community. I firmlybelieve that children are growing up in a world with little or no moral characteristics. What happened to the integrity of our childdren's? There should be some kind of punishment for wrong doings in plagiarizing. If there is no consequences established in order to prevent others from copying the same offense ,we as instructors aren't sending good messages about what is expected from our students original work.
Chapter 7 Video games-Good or bad? (Education Issues)
Good video games are very educational and instructive for children of all ages, but on the other hand, bad video games can also be very destructive and have no educational purposes whatsoever of good value to our children. I disagree with the findings of James Gee, in the book "What Video Games Have to Teach Us About Literacy and Learning", his research reveals even the so-called "shoot-em up" games can teach skills. These video games are actually showing our children how to become monsters and people who are desensitizing to everything around them. I do not want my children watching or playings video games that will instruct or teach them how to become evil and disrespectful to authority and those who have the rule over them. I want my child to watch and play video games that can help them academically or physically in positive ways. I certainly, agree a hundred percent with Grossman's campaign on technology in education is teaching our children to like violence and it is OK for violence. Why are we sending the wrong kind of information to our children because trying to correct mistakes are very difficult once the bad roots have already grown into the soil.

Chapter 6 Technology, Digital Media, and Curriculum Integration
Bilingual Education
Children learning English for the first time should not be held accountable for the first couple of years. But shortly after then children should be encouraged to speak and conversate in English more often in school with other classmates and teachers. The more you practice at something the better you become at it because learning another language is not an easy task to learn. LEP children should not be forced to speak in English only but I do believe that the transition will have gradually. Sometimes I think that ( LEP)children are afraid to speak in the English language because of the other children bothering them for speaking with an accent. Children can be very hurtful and cause others to feel bad about themselves because they don't talk of look like the majority. Children can practice the English language by using the Spanish/English CD's or DVD's that have different pictures in English and in Spanish and even have people conversating in English to Spanish and from Spanish to English. I also really think that another child that speaks the same language can help the teacher with a student with (LEP). What's really important due to cultural diversity teachers need to continue to enhance a little something about different cultures. Whether it be vocabulary, or simple every day words for activity of daily living to help make our children of (LEP) transition more comfortably into our classrooms and schools.

Essay #1 Net Censoring /Education Issues

Essay #1 Net Censoring / Education Issues

Should schools be allow to Internet censorship ? Yes, there should be censorship on the internet during school hours. Children need to stay focus on school materials and participate less on surfing the internet during crucial hours of learning. Without stipulations, the teachers are aware of the amount of activities that students can easily be drifted into by just one incident of internet surfing. Learning is also an important issue, if we don't give them the opportunity to look and probe around they are being restricted on learning more about the computer and the different windows involve just by being on the internet/computer. Broadening their computer skills can only happen through frequent visit on the internet. There is nothing wrong with being on Wikopedia, You Tube, and even the Weather Channel ,but does it refers to what your teacher is speaking about in class. Filtering programs and Acceptable Use Policies(AUP) are good resources because you can restrict the usage of unuseful viewing sites that students frequently visit. Working together to come to an agreement on the welfare for our students using the internet is better than trying to come against one another because this problem will always exist. School should not ban the Internet but limitations are always important and will always be necessary. I would use the Internet with the necessary filtering programs and Acceptable Use Policy when using the internet in my classroom in order not to offend or angering the parents. Parents should also offer their support in reference to seeing that their children are safe from all harm or dangerous predators on the internet. The internet should be a place of learning constructive things/ideas and not corrupt things. This is very important for teachers and parents to have their guards up at all time when their students are using the internet. Giving all students the benefits of all doubts until proven guilty because not all student are surfing the wrong sites.

Chapter 5 Are We Scaring Our Kids?

No, I definitely do not think that we are scaring our kids, but as a matter of fact, I do think that the word is getting around about stranger/danger. The more parents, teachers, and other school/public official reiterate the importance of not talking of being friendly to people you do not know can help our children stay safe and be aware of their surroundings. Sometimes children get into trouble by speaking to someone they are unfamiliar with and no one told them about the dangers about speaking to strangers but also wanted to help him find his little lost puppy. After a couple of incidents about children getting into cars with strangers to locate his little lost puppy and ended up getting killed. Children are now becoming more aware about strangers and what can happen to them if they get into their cars.
Chapter 4 Education Issues

Reading Comprehension

I think that since children today are so in tuned with technology associated with the media world. Incorporating reading for an example something that many students dislike doing or have a hard time mastering or staying focused on. Incorporating handheld PDAs(personal digital assistant) could really trigger or spark them into reading books more often or on a daily basis because the PDA(personal digital assistants) is not a textbook and it looks cools and they also enjoy using it because it is a part ofthe technology world. There are many different ways of learning school materials in different ways that are not boring to our children and also encourage them enjoy reading to a higher level.
Chapter 3- Education Issues

Computer Use in the Classroom

I think the five applications are as listed from the more important to less important. The first on is the Software Suite, FOR SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN(special need software), Clip Art Gallery, Imaging Editing Software, Desktop publishing. I think that children should be introduced to each application according to the subject-related matter that is being taught by the teacher in the classroom. Students should be encourage as young as pre-schooler or the beginning orkindergarten if they did not attend a pre-school settings to become more familiar with the basic keyboard, windows application usages.

Teaching Today /Chapter 2 Communications, Networks, the Internet, and the World Wide Web

I strongly agree that every student should have rules and regulations when it comes to utilizing the internet without parental/ teacher supervision. Students should not be deprived from using the internet for educational purposes because of the negativity on the internet. Children should be taught at a young age the dangers of using the internet the wrong way, and parents should reiterate on a continual basis for tips for reminders. I don’t think that students should avoid that internet completely but I do think that they should avoid surfing the wrong sites. Teachers and parents should take the necessary precautions to make sure that their students/ children are safe on the internet and stay in safe territories and do not surf dangerous terrains.

Chapter 1 - Educational Issues

Possible Child Abuse
I would report the abuse information to someone else in the building, whom is not related to that child or to other members of the child’s family. I would not report the information to my immediate supervisor because she is certainly aware of the relationship of the boy to the school board member. I would probably call the 1-800 number and voice my concerns about the suspected child abuse in reference to the 9-year-old boy Juan Gonzales and ask to remind anonymous for the protection of my identity being revealed. Usually most of the time your gut feelings about something is usually right , on the other hand, you could also probably be wrong about the situation. But there is nothing wrong with making a claim and finding out in the long run there is nothing wrong about your findings. But what happens to a child that you suspected was being abuse and you never reported the information to the proper authorities and something unspeakable happen to that individual, what would you do. Can you live with the fact that you could have saved that child’s life and you chose to do nothing, where was your good judgment ? Everyone in the school system should be an advocate for the children because as adults we are their eyes and ears . Many times they can’t voice their opinions but if they have a trusted person like you and I the world would and could be a better place for your children and mines. So whenever in doubt do the right thing and call the 1-800 abuse number to prevent the continuous cycle of child abuse or a suspected case.
