Chapter 8 -Education Issues( Research Paper)
I think that using the Web for research differs greatly from using it to copy someone's else work. When someone goes on the Internet for research purposes the individual is looking for data or information to back up his or her previous findings on a particular subject or matter. How can instructors keep students from claiming the work of others as their own? I think the instructors should not have to play police officers for the students in their classes but I do believe that those who continue to do wrong even when they are aware of the consequences should be punished. Some instructors are aware of the continual mischief of some students , who don't think twice of the consequences they can face if they get caught.I think that teachers should familiarize themselves with the different sites that students use to copy others work, in other words plagiarizing. Going through high school, college, and even through university through copied work from others, does not say much about you as a person, who someday will become a leader in our community. I firmlybelieve that children are growing up in a world with little or no moral characteristics. What happened to the integrity of our childdren's? There should be some kind of punishment for wrong doings in plagiarizing. If there is no consequences established in order to prevent others from copying the same offense ,we as instructors aren't sending good messages about what is expected from our students original work.

I agree with you, Natacha, many of the students of today just want to take the easiest road to their education. ( Actually, that goes for most everything.) So much of life today has been simplified that they want to find quicker , easier ways to complete all tasks, and research projects are included. There should be definite, decisive consequences for these actions. I find it hard to believe that they could NOT know that these actions are not both immoral and illegal, with all the information and education that they (and we ) receive about plagiarizing.
